Washington College recognizes and rewards exemplary academic achievement. More than 50% of all Washington College students qualify for a tuition merit-based scholarship at the time of their admission to the College. On average, these tuition scholarships range in amount from $5,000 - $13,750 per year.
In most cases, eligibility for a merit-based tuition scholarship is determined by high school GPA and SAT-I or ACT scores. However, members of either the National Honor Society or Cum Laude Society who are admitted to the College are guaranteed a merit-based academic tuition scholarship of at least $10,000 per year. Based upon their high school GPA and test scores, NHS and CLS members may qualify for incremental scholarship amounts of $1,500, $2,500, or $3,750.
To be a contender for merit-based tuition awards we recommend the following:
All recipients of merit-based tuition scholarships are designated as Washington Scholars.
Merit-based tuition scholarships and tuition grants are awarded by the Washington College Scholarship Committee to full-time accepted undergraduate applicants without regard to financial need. In all cases, it is advantageous to complete the requirements for admission in advance of the February 15 application deadline. Unless otherwise noted, annual renewal requires full-time enrollment and a cumulative grade point average between 3.0 and 4.0. For additional information about the academic tuition scholarship and tuition grant opportunities described below, contact the Admissions Office.
Merit-based tuition scholarships are fixed in amount and awarded at the time of admission. Students who are not offered a merit-based tuition scholarship at the time of admission are eligible to be considered for the normal array of College awards and prizes offered to eligible undergraduate students and may be eligible to receive need-based financial aid.
All merit-based tuition scholarship recipients are required to meet the renewal criteria stipulated in their award letters. Failure to meet the renewal criteria may result in the reduction or removal of the scholarship.
Admitted applicants of exceptionally high academic standing are designated as Hodson Trust Scholars. Typically, this designation accurs after May 1. Renewal criteria for the merit-based academic tuition scholarship awarded to Hodson Trust Scholars includes both full-time enrollment and a cumulative grade point average in the range of 3.00 to 4.00. Hodson Trust Scholarships are made possible by grants from the Hodson Trust.

To qualify, students must be NHS or CLS members prior to March 1 their senior year.
