NAPSLO - Rolland L. Wiegers Scholarship Program

Attracting the best and the brightest students to careers in the surplus lines industry is a goal of the Foundation. By offering scholarships to deserving college and university students majoring in insurance the Foundation intends to build a base of well trained and qualified individuals interested in the industry and seeking employment opportunities with E & S firms. Each year the Foundation offers up to 10 - 12 scholarships to students base on a review of applications received.

In recognition of the contributions that Rolland L. Wiegers, founder and Chairman of the Scottsdale Insurance Company, has made to the excess and surplus lines insurance industry, a scholarship has been established in his name in association with the Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation. The purpose of the scholarship is to further the study of of insurance and encourage, support, and reward those exceptional students who have an interest in an insurance career.

Six scholarships may be awarded each year in the amount of $2,000 each. Students must submit a completed application, college transcript, essay and two completed recommendation forms. For more information please go to: Rolland L. Wiegers Scholarship Program


The New Jersey Newspaper Foundation Scholarships and Internships

Deadline: November 15, 2008

Your paid internship will last eight weeks and must be served at a newspaper that is a member of the New Jersey Press Association. On the application form you are asked to list three New Jersey newspapers-including at least one weekly newspaper-at which you would prefer to serve your internship (a list of New Jersey newspapers is posted on the NJPAWeb site, www.njpa.org).

While NJNF cannot guarantee you will work at a newspaper of your choice, every effort will be made to respect your preferences and locate an internship near your home. The Foundation selection committee will make the final decision on where your internship will be located. All internships are subject to approval by the newspaper's publisher and/or editor. Assignments will be made in January.

The combined scholarship grant and internship salary you will receive through this program is approximately $3,900, including a $1,500 scholarship and a weekly salary of at least $300 (before taxes) for eight weeks. Some newspapers may invite their interns to work longer than eight weeks and some papers may pay more than $300 a week.

In order to receive the full scholarship grant, you must successfully complete your full eight-week internship (written reports required). The scholarship grant will be made payable to your school and may affect other financial aid you have been promised.

National Sculpture Society Scholarship

Deadline: May 31, 2008

Scholarships of $1,000 each are available for students of figurative or representational sculpture. Scholarships are paid directly to the academic institution through which the student applies.

Donna Reed Foundation for the Performing Arts

Scholarships are for High School Seniors in both acting and musical theater. The following Scholarships are available

High School Senior Scholarship Requirements

  1. Must be a high school student graduating between September 1, 2007 and August 31, 2008.
  2. Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
  3. Must register as a full-time student for the festival.
  4. Must submit a 3-minute video or DBD with a $25 processing fee. May audition in both categories by submitting a processing fee for each category entry. Each category entry must be on a separate video or DVD.
  5. All materials (workshop registration form and audition videotape or cd) must arrive in the same package and be postmarked before June 1, 2008.
  6. Preliminary judging will narrow the field to the top three performances in each category. These finalists will be announced on Wednesday, June 20, during the 8:30 a.m. warm-up portion of the workshops and will compete Saturday evening, June 23, during the Scholarship and Awards Performance. Students not chosen as finalists may audition during the festival for the other merit awards.

The Sallie Mae 911 Education Fund

The Sallie Mae 911 Education Fund was created in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The scholarship program is open to children of those who were killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks, and who are enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions.* Scholarship awards of up to $2,500 per applicant, per school year, are available and may be renewed on an annual basis, subject to satisfactory academic progress. Sallie Mae Fund Scholarships, Unmet Need Scholarship Program

Deadline: May 2008

Open to families with a combined income of $30,000 or less, this program is intended to supplement financial aid packages that fall more than $1,000 short of students' financial need. This scholarship is not designed as a substitute for aid provided by an institution. The program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) to be eligible to apply. Recipients will be selected based on financial need. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,800.

SAP America Scholarship Program

As an information technology leader, SAP recognizes and embraces its commitment to the communities in which we live and work. We believe the private sector plays a vital role in creating a level playing field and building an enviroment that embraces education, technology, and innovation. By enabling people to develop their own skills, creativity and solutions, they will be better equipped to help themselves and take an active and rewarding role in their communities.

The SAP America scholarship program wishes to recognize outstanding undergraduate students pursuing a degree in business, computer science, mathematics or engineering. Each academic year, SAP will award 9 students with a $10,000 scholarship that is intended to assist students in defraying tuition expenses for that one academic year.

The SAP America Scholarship Program will:
  • Award up to nine, $10,000 scholarships to students for the 2008/2009 academic year
  • The funds are intended to assist the student in defraying tuition expenses and may not be used to cover other costs such as room and board;
  • If annual tuition is less than $10,000 the remaining amount may be carried forward to the next academic year, without the need for the student to re-qualify for that subsequent year; and
  • The scholarship payment will be made directly to the desiganted and eligible university and are not transferable to other academic institutions.

    Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation Scholarship

    Application for the 2008 Awards WILL NOT be accepted until after March 1, 2008

    The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation is dedicated to preserving the memory of Corinne Schillings, a 26 year-old woman who lost her life in the Baltimore Water Taxi accident on March 6, 2004. The foundation will award scholarships to deserving young women who have earned the Girl Scout Gold or Silver Award and who plan to or are currently pursuing a college major or minor in foreign language. This scholarship IS renewable.

    Scholarship Guidelines
    1. Applicant must be a Silver or Gold Award recipient.
    2. Applicant is currently or will be pursuing a major/minor in a foreign language.
    3. Applicant is currently or will be attending an accredited four year college or university as a full-time student.
    4. For a first time college/university attendee, applicant must have attained at least a "B" average during high school (3.0 on a 4.0; or, 4.0 on a 5.0 - grading scale).
    5. For a currently enrolled college/university student, the applicant must have attained at least a "B" average in their major/minor foreign language (3.0 on a 4.0; or, 4.0 on a 5.0 - grading scale).
    6. The scholarship recipient will receive $1,500 (which may be used for tuition or fees related to their foreign language major/minor). [The scholarship payment will be made directly to the four year college or university as a credit to the recipient.]
    7. The scholarship may be renewed for a maximum of four years ($6,000 maximum), if:
      1. the recipient remains a full-time student, and
      2. continues to major/minor in a foreign language, and
      3. progresses toward a degree, and
      4. maintains a "B" average in the major/minor foreign language.
    8. Submit a one page letter of recommendation from a Girl Scout volunteer or professional Girl Scout staff member. (The recommendation should come from someone who knows the applicant and her accomplishments well.)
    Scholarship Application Process
    1. Complete the initial application, which may be obtained from the foundation's web site at http://www.cjsfoundation.org/.
    2. Attach a letter from the local GSUSA council providing verification of the applicant's Silver or Gold Award status.
    3. For applicants not currently enrolled in a college/university
      1. provide a copy of their high school transcript showing at least a "B" average.
      2. provide proof they have been accepted at an accredited college, and will be attending as a full-time student.
      3. show proof that they intend to major/minor in a foreign language.
    4. For applicants currently enrolled in a college/university
      1. provide a copy of their transcript showing they are a full-time student, in good standing, and progressing toward a degree.
      2. provide proof they are a major/minor in a foreign language and maintaining at least a "B" average in their major/minor foreign language.

    The Society of Women Engineers

    Deadline: May 15, 2008

    The SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women admitted to accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs, in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science. In fiscal year 2005, SWE disbursed more than 130 new and renewed scholarships valued at more than $300,000.

    Grants are announced in the late spring (sophomore, junior, senior and graduate students) and late summer/early fall (freshmen and reentry students) for use during the following academic year. Grant payments are made in the fall for corporate-sponsored scholarships and in both the fall and spring for endowed scholarships, upon proof of registration.

    All SWE Scholarships are open only to women pursuing baccalaureate or graduate degrees in engineering or computer science, as well as engineering and computer science students enrolled in ABET-accredited engineering programs. This list of SWE-approved colleges and universities is the same list as the ABET-accredited engineering programs.

    SunTrust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes Official Rules

    Deadline: Rolling every two weeks starting October 31, 2007 through May 11, 2008

    High school seniors can win a $1,000 scholarship for first year expenses at an accredited college or private career school, plus a $250 SunTrust Gift Card. One winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 31, 2007, through May 15, 2008. Winner's school of attendance will also receive $1,000. Students can begin registering September 15, 2007, and the first drawing will be held on October 31, 2007.

    It's FREE to enter and eligibility is not based on GPA or financial need. Each $1,000 scholarship check will be payable to the winner's school of attendance. A $250 Gift Card will be sent directly to student to use as he or she wishes. Only one entry per person for each drawing, however you can register after each drawing for the next one!

    The Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes begins on 10/31/07 and ends 5/15/08 ("Sweepstakes Period").

    To enter, student must complete an online entry form by accessing the SunTrust Education Loans Off To College Web site (http://www.suntrusteducation.com/sweeps/default.asp).

    Entries are limited to one per person during each drawing period. Or, entrants can hand-print their name, address, city, state, zip, day and evening phone numbers, and the words "SunTrust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes" on a 3"x 5"card, and mail it in a stamped #10 envelope to: SunTrust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes, P.O. Box 27172, Richmond, VA, 23261-7172. Mail-in entries will be entered into the applicable drawings based upon the date the entry is received. Alternate entries are limited to one submission per name or address, per drawing period. One winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 31, 2007 through May 15, 2008.
