AAUW Fellowships and Grants Program

One of the world's largest sources of funding exclusively for graduate women, the AAUW Educational Foundation supports aspiring scholars around the globe, teachers and activists in local communities, women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented.

- American Fellowships support women doctoral candidates completing dissertations and scholars seeking funds for postdoctoral research leave or for preparing completed research for publication. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. One-year postdoctoral research leave fellowships, dissertation fellowships, and summer/short-term research publication grants are offered.
- Career Development Grants support women who hold a bachelor's degree and who are preparing to advance their careers, change careers, or re-enter the work force. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Community Action Grants provide seed money to individual women, AAUW branches and AAUW state organizations, as well as local community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs or non-degree research projects that promote education and equity for women and girls. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- International Fellowships are awarded for full-time graduate or postgraduate study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Supplemental grants support community-based projects in the fellow's home country.
- Selected Professions Fellowships are awarded to women who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who intend to pursue a full-time course of study (during the fellowship year) in designated degree programs where women's participation traditionally has been low.

AT&T Labs Fellowship Program

An AT&T Labs Fellowship is the opportunity of a lifetime. Fellowships are available to outstanding under-represented minority and women students who are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents and who are pursuing Ph.D. studies in computer and communications-related fields. The ALFP program awards a three-year fellowship and is contingent on an annual review demonstrating that the recipients are making satisfactory progress toward their PhD. Each fellowship recipient participates in a research summer internship during their first summer in the program. During the summer, students work as a part of research teams on various projects within AT&T Labs. Eligibility
- Students must be seniors graduating in the current academic year or in their first or second year of grad school.
- They must be female or members of a minority underrepresented in science fields (Hispanic, African-American, or Native American).
- They must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a graduate school program leading to a PhD.
- They must be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents.
- The student's major field must be in computer science, math, statistics, electrical engineering, operations research, systems engineering, industrial engineering, or related fields.
What the Fellowship Provides
- All educational expenses during the school year, including tuition, books, fees, and approved travel expenses.
- Education expenses for summer study or university research.
- A stipend for living expenses (currently $2380 per month, paid for 10 months of the year, plus a $500 book allowance).
- Support for attending approved scientific conferences.
- A summer internship during the student's first summer in the program.
- A mentor who is a staff member at AT&T Labs. The program emphasizes personal interaction with your mentor. For the typical recipient, this component of the program is often the most important one of all.

Amelia Earhart Fellowship Program

Since 1928, Zonta International has addressed challenges to women's equality in science, business, public affairs and government by providing critical financial support through programs aimed at furthering women's education, leadership and youth development. Only qualified candidates of the Amelia Earhart Fellowships, Women in Business Scholarships, and Young Women in Public Affairs Awards are eligible for financial awards. These are the only academic awards currently funded at the International level.
Women of any nationality are eligible. Defense-related and post-doctoral research programs are not eligible. Members and employees of Zonta International or the Zonta International Foundation are also not eligible.
To apply, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be registered in an accredited Ph.D./doctoral program in a qualifying area of science or engineering closely related to advanced studies in aerospace-related science or aerospace-related engineering. A letter of acceptance or verification of enrollment must be submitted with the application.
- Demonstrate a superior academic record at a recognized university or college with accredited courses in aerospace-related studies as verified by transcripts and recommendations.
- Provide evidence of a well-defined research program in aerospace-related science or aerospace-related engineering as described in the application essay, research and publications.
- Clearly demonstrate the relationship of the research to aerospace and furnish verification of her research program through at least one of the reference letters required with the application [i.e. research supervisor or advisor must be one of the referees].
- Applicant must be registered in a Ph.D./doctorate program by the time the Fellowship is awarded.
Award
The Fellowship of US $10,000 may be used at any university or college offering accredited post-graduate courses and degrees. Students must be registered in a Ph.D./doctoral program when funds are received. Current fellows may apply to renew the Fellowship for a second year and will undergo the same application and evaluation procedures as first-time applicants.
